The Great Dune Trilogy Reviews

This is a marvelous book. The first book I know of to recognize two great themes in sci-fi writings: the rise of a tide of thinking machines, and the evolution of a human collective unconscious. Herbert started so much that we still read about and see in the movies. One of the greats.
Thomas Rodrigues
A must-read classic. That's about what Dune is.

did not mean to stay up to half past midnight reading...
The Renegades of Pern :: A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again: Essays and Arguments :: How to Be Alone :: Epic: Stories of Survival from the World's Highest Peaks :: Azul...
Amazing!! How did I just discover this classic:-)
Great sci-fi. Absolute classic. Must read.
James Zarzana
I am re-reading this classic. It is much more engrossing than I remembered. I'll post more when I'm finished with it. Only about one-quarter through it now. Masterful!
Forget best Sci-Fi series. Dune stands as a good contender for the the greatest novel ever, and the rest of the series screams that Herbert be proclaimed one of the most brilliant literary talents.
Ruth Aubrey
I reread all of the Dune books every decade. I love them.
This is classic Sci-fi of the Ray Bradbury style (in my opinion)
what's there to say not said already. A classic must read SF
Great trilogy. Didn't like the later ones though.
Matt Whiteside
Outstanding sci fi. If you are into sci fi or want to explore sci fi, read this!

Well thought out, a compelling world and story. Gripping and thought-provoking. This is a prime example of what science fiction should be.
Excellent book with original storyline and environmental set-up. Besides crazy action scenes, philosophical contemplations of the profit Muadib is also enjoyable to read.
try it in french, fantastic. take care however it contains spoiled wisdom. Anyway Arrakis may be iraq and l'epis may be petrol while the worms may represent fear.
Such a complex, richly woven series. Outstanding. Tough to read but worth it. Everyone should experience the Dune Chronicles and Great Dune Trilogy.
Frank Herbert's massive imagination takes you to places only science fiction can. You deserve to read this!
Nostalgic and I can't seem to get the pictures from the movie (the old from 1984) out of my head.
But I love these books.

For Dune I would give five stars, but the trilogy gets a bit weird for me by the end. It's not bad, but it's not the way that I expected, or wanted the story to go.
Ken Kaufman
One of the great, most thought-provoking, thrilling scifi-fantasies I have read
Read in my late teens. Fondly remembered sci-fi, chosen as a school prize.
Joel Eagleson
The 2nd Series in my life I couldn't put down.

If you like SciFi or Fantasy and haven't read Dune then this should be your next "to read"

I really liked a Sci Fi story that built on human development more than other tech.
Chris Maclellan
Some people were telling me Dune was boring, but I thought it was interesting enough; maybe that is only because I've been reading mostly journal papers lately.
The world of science fiction which I started long time ago and haven't finished yet =)
Because the world of Dure is gigantic, and I lke that!
I really enjoyed this, wish it hadn't taken me so long to read though!
Patrick Cory
Loved it. Herbert creates a world in which drug trade affects the lives of a whole world and its the heroes destiny to set it right. The writing is eerily haunting and good.

This was fabulous in all it's concepts. It was read as a teenager, an ardent lover of Robert Heinlein more adult sci was never successfully filmed to my mind.
Marten Hoyle
I don't see this as "Science fiction's supreme masterpiece" but it was still a good book, a very quick read. I enjoyed Pauls' adventure. Wish there were more of the worms in the story.
This book is not one to be read only once. Repeated reads are needed to understand the multiple layers to this novel. I think I'm going to have to read the rest of the books now...
Along with Asimov's Foundation Trilogy, the foundation of my yen for classic, well-written, well-crafted and credible (yes! even with the sand worms) tales of other worlds and times.
a bit to much politics in the end but a very good sci-fi family chronicle
My all time favorite series... first read all 6 books in the 80 and re-read and lend them still... genius...
Amazing book! Don't let the movie put you off. I can highly reccomend all books in the series though "God Emperor of Dune".
